Job Description
A QA Automation Engineer is responsible for designing, developing and maintaining automated test frameworks to ensure the quality and reliability of software applications. The role involves working closely with developers, product teams and manual testers to understand requirements, identify test scenarios, and automate end-to-end workflows. The engineer is expected to improve test coverage, optimize execution time and contribute to continuous integration and deployment pipelines.

Responsibilities

Automation Development
Develop and maintain automated test scripts using tools like Selenium, Playwright, Cypress, TestNG, JUnit or Cucumber.
Build reusable automation frameworks for UI, API and backend testing.
Integrate test automation with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab or Azure DevOps.
Create stable, maintainable and scalable test scripts for regression, functional and integration testing.
Test Planning & Execution
Collaborate with product owners and developers to understand user stories and acceptance criteria.
Identify test scenarios and convert them into automated test cases.
Execute automated suites across various environments and analyze results.
Perform root cause analysis for failures and work with development teams for quick resolution.
API & Database Testing
Automate API test cases using tools like RestAssured, Postman, Karate or Playwright API.
Validate API responses, schema, status codes and data integrity.
Write SQL queries for backend data verification.
Quality Governance
Ensure adherence to QA standards, coding guidelines and best practices.
Contribute to continuous quality improvements and reduce manual efforts.
Track, report and document defects using tools like JIRA, Azure Boards or Bugzilla.
Performance & Security (Optional Based on Role)
Work with tools like JMeter or Gatling for load and performance testing.
Identify and report potential security vulnerabilities as per OWASP guidelines.
Collaboration & Communication
Work closely with cross-functional teams in Agile/Scrum environments.
Participate in daily standups, sprint planning, backlog grooming and retrospectives.
Provide input on test estimations, timelines and risk analysis.
Preferred Skills
Strong programming skills in Java, JavaScript, Python or C#.
Experience with Selenium WebDriver, Playwright, Appium or other automation tools.
Understanding of BDD frameworks like Cucumber.
Familiarity with Git version control.
Knowledge of SDLC, STLC and Agile methodologies.
Good understanding of CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.
