Coriander

Coriander is cultivated in Assam as both a spice and a leafy herb. It is widely used in Assamese cuisine and has growing demand in local markets.

Coriander is an important spice crop grown during the winter season in Assam and is widely used in both seed and leaf forms. The crop adapts well to the climatic conditions of the state and can be cultivated by farmers as a short duration crop. Coriander seeds are widely traded and used in spice powders and processed food products. Increasing demand for packaged spices in domestic and international markets creates opportunities for coriander processing and export. Fiscal incentives such as subsidies for food processing units and support for MSME enterprises can promote investment in spice grinding and packaging facilities. Non fiscal measures including quality control systems, market access initiatives, and improved transportation infrastructure can further support the growth of coriander production and trade in Assam.
