Financial Support for FSSAI Basic License

This component provides targeted financial assistance to eligible MSMEs for obtaining FSSAI Basic Licences, thereby supporting compliance with statutory food safety regulations while reducing the financial burden associated with the licensing process. Recognising that regulatory compliance is an essential requirement for food-based enterprises, the initiative facilitates access to FSSAI certification by supporting enterprises in meeting licence application and related compliance requirements. The assistance is intended to encourage greater participation of food processing MSMEs in the formal food safety framework by simplifying access to licensing and promoting adherence to prescribed food safety and hygiene standards. Obtaining an FSSAI Basic Licence not only enables enterprises to comply with regulatory requirements but also supports the production of safe and quality food products that meet recognised standards. By facilitating FSSAI certification, the component contributes to strengthening the credibility and sustainability of food-based MSMEs. Improved regulatory compliance, enhanced product quality, and greater consumer confidence are expected to support the long-term growth and competitiveness of enterprises operating in the food processing sector across Assam.

Objectives

The primary objective of this component is to encourage and provide financial support to eligible MSMEs in obtaining FSSAI Basic Licences, thereby strengthening compliance with statutory food safety regulations and hygiene standards. By facilitating access to licensing, the component seeks to improve the regulatory preparedness of food-based enterprises and encourage wider adoption of recognised food safety practices.
Financial assistance and district-level door-to-door registration support will enable eligible enterprises to overcome barriers associated with regulatory compliance while encouraging greater participation in the formal food safety framework.
Strengthening compliance with FSSAI requirements will contribute to improved food safety standards, enhanced product credibility, and the sustainable growth of food processing MSMEs. The component also supports the development of a more compliant and competitive food processing ecosystem within the State.
