Assam’s growing plant-based food sector produces soy-, almond-, oat-, and coconut-based beverages and dairy alternatives, catering to health-conscious, vegan, and lactose-intolerant consumers.
Non-dairy and plant-based products are emerging as a high-growth segment in Assam’s food processing industry. Products such as soy milk, almond milk, oat milk, coconut milk, plant-based yogurts, vegan cheeses, and non-dairy creams are gaining popularity due to increasing awareness of nutrition, sustainability, and dietary preferences. Assam’s access to coconut, oilseeds, grains, and agro-inputs, along with modern processing facilities, supports the production of clean-label, preservative-controlled, and functional foods. These products serve urban consumers, the hospitality sector, and health-food markets, while also offering strong export opportunities to Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and niche Western markets, where demand for vegan and lactose-free alternatives is rapidly expanding.
