Jackfruit

Assam's robust jackfruits, at 150,000 tons production, are exported as fresh or chips. Fiscal benefits include 0 percent export duty, non fiscal via organic labeling.

As a "poor man's fruit," jackfruit flourishes in Assam's forests and farms in Jorhat, yielding massive fruits used fresh, dried, or as flour. Production exceeds 150,000 tons, with exports to the US for ethnic communities. Fiscally, no duties apply under WTO, but GST at 12 percent covers processed items imports are negligible, focusing on seeds from Kerala. Non fiscal hurdles include biodiversity laws for wild varieties and HACCP for food safety.
