Ginger

Assam is one of the leading producers of fresh ginger in India due to its humid climate and fertile soil. The crop is widely cultivated in hill and plain districts and has strong demand in domestic and export markets.

Fresh ginger is an important commercial spice crop in Assam and is cultivated extensively by small and marginal farmers. The favourable agro-climatic conditions of the state support the production of high-quality ginger with strong aroma and flavour. The crop is widely used in food processing, beverages, confectionery, and traditional medicines. India exports ginger and ginger products to several international markets, creating export opportunities for producers in Assam. The development of processing units for ginger powder, paste, oil, and candy can enhance value addition and support MSME growth. Fiscal support in the form of subsidies, credit facilities, and incentives for agro-processing industries can encourage investment, while non fiscal support such as infrastructure development, training, quality certification, and improved logistics can strengthen the ginger value chain in the state.
